On Thursday, May 15, Walden science teacher, Steve Platt, will be speaking to students who have their parents permission on "Jewish Armed Resistance to the Holocaust." Please watch for your child's permission slip. Steve has widely visited sites related to the Holocaust in both Poland and Israel. He was an invited attendee at the Teachers' Summer Seminar on the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance (Poland and Israel) last summer. The seminar was conducted by many of the leading world experts on the Holocaust. Steve has spoken widely on this subject over the last decade.
Parents are welcome to attend the May 15, 12:25 p.m. presentation in the library.
The yearbooks are fresh out of the printer (they still have that “new book” smell). Hurry, only a limited number are left!
Buy yours now for just $40! The 2007-2008 yearbook has been crafted together by its own unique Walden students. It’s a different, new, and spectatcular-looking book that holds many great memories! The end of the year is coming soon, and you will want to get your yearbook as soon as possible!
The PTSA hosts a reception for graduates and their families following commencement and we need your help! We are looking for a GRCIT (graduation reception coordinator in training). This year's commencement is on Friday, June 6, 6:00 p.m., in the UW-Parkside Communication Arts Theatre.
Each year a junior family/parent plans the reception with the help of a sophomore family/parent. The sophomore family then hosts it the next year with the help of a new family in training. Past hosts have kept careful records of what needs to be done, so the job is already very organized and manageable.
Christine Tutlewski will be organizing this year's reception after helping with the reception last year. If you are parents of a sophomore, please consider being this year's GRCIT (okay, so it doesn't roll off the tongue easily).
Enjoy a lunch or dinner from Domino's for the final Dine Out Night this year on Thursday, May 8. Present a voucher (available in next week's NOW) with your order and Walden receives 20% of the proceeds. Use scrip to help Walden even more! Pam Heitfeld has Domino's scrip on hand (see Scrip Tips below). Thanks for supporting Walden!
If you shop at Pick 'n Save, please sign up for the Advantage Plus card and designate Walden PTSA as the charity. Each time an Advantage Plus cardholder presents the card at the checkout, a donation from that grocery purchase is given to the organization. If you are already an Advantage Plus Savers Club cardholder, please designate Walden PTSA as the recipient. Our account number is 910560.
Next Thursday, May 8th, is the last Walden dine-out fundraising event for this year. It will be at Domino's Pizza from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. You can use scrip that day when you purchase Domino's pizza, and Walden will earn even more. Domino's scrip is available in $5 certificates, and Walden earns an extra 5%. If you place an order for Domino's scrip by Friday, May 2nd, it will be available by Wednesday, May 7th. We will also have a limited amount of Domino's scrip on hand for purchase. Contact Pam Heitfeld if you need extra Domino's scrip at the last minute.
It's still not too late to purchase scrip for Mother's Day gifts. If you place an order by this Friday, your scrip will come by May 9th, just in time for Mom's special day! Scrip also makes great gifts for graduation, spring weddings or showers, teacher appreciation, and even Father's Day. Think of scrip for all your end-of-the year gift giving. These are gifts you'll purchase anyway, and Walden will benefit from your generosity as well!
This week's scrip orders are due in the scrip mail box located in the school office by 9:00 AM on Friday, May 2nd, with delivery no later than during homegroup on Friday, May 7th. If you do not want your student to pick up your scrip order, please make arrangements with Pam Heitfeld to pick it up at another time.
You can order scrip online at shopwithscrip.com. Walden's enrollment code is 821C398F11528. Paper order forms are available in the school office. You can also download the forms from our fundraising page on the PTSA website.
