Congratulations to all the Walden musicians at the state music contest last Saturday at UW-Parkside: Johnan Gamble, Lillian Proctor, Mitchell Proctor, Bria Kaufman, Doug Lechner, and members of the high school orchestra. All of the Walden entries received a 1 rating! (Editor's Note: My apologies for not including Johnan's name last week.)
On Thursday, May 15, Walden science teacher, Steve Platt, will be speaking to students who have their parents permission on "Jewish Armed Resistance to the Holocaust." Please watch for your child's permission slip. Steve has widely visited sites related to the Holocaust in both Poland and Israel. He was an invited attendee at the Teachers' Summer Seminar on the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance (Poland and Israel) last summer. The seminar was conducted by many of the leading world experts on the Holocaust. Steve has spoken widely on this subject over the last decade.
Parents are welcome to attend the May 15, 12:25 p.m. presentation in the library.
It's time to order your gift certificates, called Milaeger's Money, from the music department. All orders for Milaeger's gift certificates are due this Friday, May 9. The gift certificates can be used to buy any plant—hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, roses, ground covers, and vegetables—at any Milaeger's location. The gift certificates don't expire, so please be generous!
Certificates come in amounts of $15, $25, and $50, with Walden earning 20%. Make checks out to Walden III.
If you're already planning on a garden or flowers this season, consider helping out the Walden music department at the same time!
The Walden III Spring Production of "The Really Hip Adventures of Go-Go-Girl, Episode 9: The Evil Space Vixens" will be presented May 15, 16, and 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Walden gym. This play is a madcap parody of the TV superheroes from the 1960s. It takes place at the fictional Nancy Sinatra State University with our superheroine Go-Go-Girl. Everyone is invited and you can even join us for the "pony" dance! Tickets are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and seniors, and children under 10 are free.
Tickets for the May 17 Walden Senior Prom will be on sale by May 12. Seniors are reminded that all fees (book rent, lost books, etc.) must be paid prior to purchasing prom tickets. The prom dinner will be at the Racine Country Club.
Walden seniors will celebrate the completion of their R.O.P.E. (Rite of Passage Experience) requirement with a special R.O.P.E. ceremony on Thursday, May 29, 6:00 p.m. in the Walden gym. Additional information will be sent in the mail. Please RSVP as soon as possible so enough chairs can be ordered.
The PTSA hosts a reception for graduates and their families following commencement and we need your help! We are looking for a GRCIT (graduation reception coordinator in training). This year's commencement is on Friday, June 6, 6:00 p.m., in the UW-Parkside Communication Arts Theatre.
Each year a junior family/parent plans the reception with the help of a sophomore family/parent. The sophomore family then hosts it the next year with the help of a new family in training. Past hosts have kept careful records of what needs to be done, so the job is already very organized and manageable.
Christine Tutlewski will be organizing this year's reception after helping with the reception last year. If you are parents of a sophomore, please consider being this year's GRCIT (okay, so it doesn't roll off the tongue easily).
Enjoy a lunch or dinner from Domino's for the final Dine Out this year on Thursday, May 8. Present this voucher with your order and Walden receives 20% of the proceeds. Use scrip to help Walden even more! Pam Heitfeld has Domino's scrip on hand (see Scrip Tips below). Thanks for supporting Walden!
Collect all those Box Tops and Campbell's labels and get them turned in next week. The final deadline for this year is Friday, May 16. Please check the expiration date, clip carefully, and deliver them to the collection boxes outside of Annaliese's room. Thanks to everyone who helped us set new collection records new year!
We recently learned that our Pick 'n Save efforts are really paying off! Donations to Walden from the Pick 'n Save program are up this year—all the way to $352! Regular shoppers are generating this money for Walden, just by showing their Advantage Plus card at checkout.
If you shop at Pick 'n Save, please sign up for the Advantage Plus card and designate Walden PTSA as the charity. Each time an Advantage Plus cardholder presents the card at the checkout, a donation from that grocery purchase is given to the organization. If you are already an Advantage Plus Savers Club cardholder, please designate Walden PTSA as the recipient. Our account number is 910560.
Scrip is an easy way to support Walden, at no extra cost to you. We all have regular expenses and can incorporate the purchase of scrip into our monthly budgets. But it does take some pre-planning. Once you determine your weekly expenses, consider using scrip for some of those regular trips to the grocery store, gas station, coffee shop or fast food restaurant. You don't have to spend more (you might even spend less if you stick to your scrip budget!) and Walden will really come out ahead. Our delivery turn-around time is generally less than a week, so you only have to plan a week ahead.
As the end of the year quickly approaches, it's time to think of graduation and teacher appreciation gifts. Teachers will appreciate that their thank-you gift is also supporting Walden. There are so many gift options—check out www.glscrip.com and click on the Retailers tab to find a great gift idea for your favorite graduate and every one of your child's teachers.
If you are interested in purchasing scrip for the last Dine Out fundraiser tomorrow at Domino's, Pam Heitfeld has Domino's scrip (in $5 increments, with an additional 5% to Walden). Pam will also be selling Domino's scrip at lunch today in the Walden library. If you can't make it to Walden at lunch today, call Pam to coordinate a time to purchase Domino's scrip for tomorrow.
This week's scrip orders are due in the scrip mail box located in the school office by 9:00 AM on Friday, May 9th, with delivery no later than during homegroup on Friday, May 16th. If you do not want your student to pick up your scrip order, please make arrangements with Pam Heitfeld to pick it up at another time.
You can order scrip online at shopwithscrip.com. Walden's enrollment code is 821C398F11528. Paper order forms are available in the school office. You can also download the forms from our fundraising page on the PTSA website.
