Walden student Adam Rutkowski was recognized by the Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program for his efforts to promote energy efficiency and educate Wisconsin residents about energy related issues. He was one of 34 top sellers of the Bright Idea fundraiser. (Read the entire Journal Times article.) Congratulations, Adam!
A person in the Walden community recently did some remodeling and used scrip to purchase materials. The simple act of using scrip for such a large purchase—it cost the same to the consumer—benefited Walden in a big way. Our thanks for thinking of Walden and a word of encouragement to others considering projects this summer. (Check out Scrip Tips below for ideas.)
Steve Platt will be speaking on the armed resistance to the Holocaust tomorrow, May 15, 12:25 p.m. in the library. Parents are welcome to attend.

It's part business and socializing at the final PTSA meeting of the year on Tuesday, May 20, 6:30 p.m. We'll vote on a 2008-09 budget, elect a new officer, and listen to the annual highlights report before a time of recognizing past coordinators and committee chairs and welcoming the new volunteers. Find out what the Walden PTSA can do for you and what you can do for the PTSA. And yes, there will be food! If you're a parent of an incoming 6th grader, it's a great time for you to meet people and learn about the Walden PTSA. Parents, staff, and students are all welcome.
Vanessa has requested the help of several volunteers to serve ice cream and be cashiers at the May 22 music department concert and ice cream social. If you can help, please contact Vanessa directly.
Hurry and get your Box Tops and Campbell's labels in by this Friday, May 16. It's the deadline for collection this year and every little bit helps! Check those expiration dates, clip carefully, and deposit them in the collection boxes outside of Annaliese's room.
We just received a $186.76 check from Box Tops, which brings up the total for this year up to $525.96! That money can really help fund academic enrichment activities for our Walden students.
A special thanks to Jane and the Senior Class for their great sale in April. Your assistance was wonderful!
This month, with any purchase of $75 or more (before taxes), customers will get a FREE Beach Bag! This stylish and spacious bag is perfect for summer picnics or days at the beach.
Our next sale is on Tuesday, May 27th, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. This is the last sale of the year! This is your last time to stock up on Market Day to benefit Walden School. This month's student group is Annette's Ski Club. Market Day will be returning in September.
Those of you who are not familiar with Market Day please check out the Market Day website and designate Walden.
If you have travel plans for the Memorial Day Weekend, you can purchase gas cards to use on your trip. Scrip is available for Speedway, BP, Kwik Trip, Shell, Chevron and more. Scrip is also available for most fast food restaurants, including Burger King, Wendy's, Arbys, KFC and Culvers, just to list a few. And don't forget Starbucks for coffee to keep you going along the way. Orders placed by this Friday will arrive in time for Memorial Day.
Scrip makes a great Father's Day gift for that special Dad or Grandpa. Father's Day is June 15th, and it's not too early to think of scrip for a gift you know he will appreciate. Dads love Dick's Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain and Cabela's; Best Buy, Radio Shack, Circuit City and Ritz Camera; Menards, Home Depot and Lowe's. If it's clothes or a new tie he needs, you can get scrip for Eddie Bauer, Old Navy, Lands End, JC Penney, Kohls, Boston Store and many more. Books make a great gift for Dad—think Barnes & Noble, Borders and even amazon.com. And if you're taking him out to dinner, you can use scrip at Applebees, Outback Steak House, TGI Fridays, PF Changs, and Red Robin, just to name a few of the hundreds of restaurants that offer scrip. Check www.glscrip.com and click on the Retailer's tab for more ideas.
This week's scrip orders are due in the scrip mail box located in the school office by 9:00 AM on Friday, May 16th, with delivery no later than during homegroup on Friday, May 23rd. If you do not want your student to pick up your scrip order, please make arrangements with Pam Heitfeld to pick it up at another time.
You can order scrip online at shopwithscrip.com. Walden's enrollment code is 821C398F11528. Paper order forms are available in the school office. You can also download the forms from our fundraising page on the PTSA website.
Andrea will be collecting Kemps Caps until the last day of school. Each cap is worth 5 cents and every cent counts. Thank you to all those families that have saved for Walden this year so far. Keep saving them over the summer. Our goal is for 2000 caps—presently we have collected 800 caps so far this year.
