PTSA

Report from PTSA Meeting

With a feast of pizza, appetizers, and cookies, the last PTSA meeting of the year was a celebration of the many ways Walden parents support the school. During the business meeting, we elected a new treasurer (Kim Forsman), recognized past and future coordinators, reviewed highlights of the year, and approved a budget for 2008-2009.

Thanks to all the many volunteers who participated in PTSA and volunteered to help at the school. You made it a great year!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Urgent Need for Commencement Reception

Fri., June 6, 6:00 p.m., UW-Parkside Communication Arts Theatre

Urgent request: The PTSA hosts a reception for graduates and their families following commencement and we need your help! We need a graduation reception coordinator in training. This year's commencement is on Friday, June 6, 6:00 p.m., in the UW-Parkside Communication Arts Theatre.

Each year a junior family/parent plans the reception with the help of other parents, then passes on the responsibility to the helpers for the next year. We're offering this opportunity to parents of freshmen or sophomores. Past hosts have kept careful records of what needs to be done, so the job is already very organized and manageable.

Christine Tutlewski will be organizing this year's reception after helping with the reception last year. Stevie Breit will be assisting with the reception, but she'll be the parent of a senior next year and unable to be the coordinator. If you are parents of a freshman or sophomore, please consider being this year's trainee. And please call to volunteer soon!

Scrip Tips for May 21

Next order due May 23, delivery on May 30

Several retailers are offering spring bonuses, so Walden will earn even more if you purchase scrip from the following merchants: Until May 30th, Barnes & Noble is giving us a 10% profit. Until June 6th, Lowe's is offering 6%, Bedandbreakfast.com is at 15%, Home Depot is offering 4%, and Ritz Camera is giving us 9%. Until June 13th, Borders is offering 10%, K-Mart will be at 9%, Sears is giving us 9% and LLBean's profit has increased to 17%. Finally, until June 27th, Cabela's is giving us 14%. These would make great gifts for Father's Day, graduations or weddings. If none of these retailers fit the bill, check out www.shopwithscrip.com for more options.

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, think of using scrip as gifts for Walden's hard-working teachers and staff. You'll be showing your appreciation for the teachers, and supporting Walden at the same time. Have your student has his or her teacher for their favorite place to eat or shop, and chances are we can get the scrip. Remember, there is NO EXTRA COST to you!! Teachers will be happy that you've used scrip and their gift helped raise money for programs for Walden.

Scrip makes a great graduation gift as well. Graduates heading to college would appreciate Bed Bath & Beyond for dorm-room necessities, Office Max or Office Depot for supplies, Best Buy or Circuit City for cameras, computers, etc. Check out www.glscrip.com for all the participating retailers to find the perfect graduation gift.

This week's scrip orders are due in the scrip mail box located in the school office by 9:00 AM on Friday, May 23rd, with delivery no later than during homegroup on Friday, May 30th. If you do not want your student to pick up your scrip order, please make arrangements with Pam Heitfeld to pick it up at another time.

You can order scrip online at shopwithscrip.com. Walden's enrollment code is 821C398F11528. Paper order forms are available in the school office. You can also download the forms from our fundraising page on the PTSA website.
