Absences

It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to notify the school in the event of illness, absence or tardiness on a daily basis. Please call 664-6259 before 9:00 a.m. and the answering machine will take your call. Unverified absences will be considered truancies and will be recorded as such on the permanent record. Students who arrive after 7:04 a.m. are required to sign-in at the Main Office and contact their homegroup teacher before going to class. This prevents unnecessary calls to your home or office. The school principal or designee has the authority to approve a legal excuse for the following reasons:

State law and RUSD policy states a student may miss no more than 10 days which include: illness, funerals, vacation, appointments. There is a special form that is available in the attendance office that a student must have signed by all teachers and Bob Holzem or Jane Steker whenever the student would like to be excused from school because of vacations, etc. This must be completed in advance, or the absence may be considered unexcused.

Phone Calls to Students

Students will not be called out of class unless an emergency exists. You may call the office (664-6250) and leave a message to be posted on the main hall bulletin board outside of the office. Please instruct your child to check this board for messages. Your child may phone home from the office.

Cell phones may not be turned on during class, or used inside the school. If cell phone usage is disruptive, it will be held for your child in the office until the end of the day.

Pick Up and Drop Off

Only students can park in the south parking lot during the winter months. If you are picking up or dropping off students, you must use one of the side streets. Do not stop or park on the west side of Center Street.

Inclement Weather Warnings

The district has emergency closing procedures to be followed in the event the schools must be closed because of a snowstorm or other emergency condition. The decision to close the schools will be made as early in the morning as possible, but usually by 6:15 a.m. It is possible that we could have a delayed start (usually 2 hours) or early release. Make sure your student has an alternate plan in case of early release. WRJN (1400 AM) as well as TV and other media will broadcast conditions and closings as needed.
